Faught Kicks Off Congressional Campaign
(Muskogee, OK) State Representative George Faught (R-Muskogee) officially kicked of his Congressional campaign Saturday. Faught announced his decision to run for the 2nd District U.S. House seat to an enthusiastic crowd of supporters at the Muskogee Civic Center. Temperatures in the upper 90’s did not dampen the spirits of those in attendance, as Faught spoke of his resolve to “take Oklahoma’s conservative, common sense approach to Washington to tackle the difficult issues.”
“Today, our country needs leaders with courage and conviction to confront the problems that are looming ahead. We need elected officials who can look beyond the political labels and do what is right for America,” stated Faught.
“Because of exploding government growth coupled with out-of-control spending, the government has buried our future generations under mountains of crushing debt,” Faught continued. “Each one of us, along with our children, has an IOU slip that reads $50,000.00 and counting. It’s time to tell Washington, ‘Enough is enough’!”
Faught, who is currently in his third term as State Representative, was elected in 2006, becoming the first Republican in state history to win the House District 14 seat. Despite overwhelming Democratic voter registration, he has continued to gain bi-partisan support and won re-election in 2008 and 2010.
The rally drew people from all over District 2, which covers the eastern third of the state, stretching from the Kansas border to the Red River. Currently, the district is represented by Dan Boren (D-Muskogee). Last month Boren announced that he would not seek re-election to a 5th term.
