Faught Limits Self To Three Terms
(Muskogee, OK) This week, State Rep. George Faught reiterated his commitment to limit his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives to no more than three full terms if he is elected to fill the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Democrat Dan Boren. In an interview recorded Wednesday and broadcast on Charlie Biggs' Tulsa Beacon Weekend on Saturday, Faught said, "I would self impose three full terms," in reference to a question about term limits.
“I am going to limit myself to no more than three full terms in the House of Representatives. Our founding fathers expected representatives to work in government with an eye toward going back home, and not staying in politics for long periods of time,” Faught said after the program. “As the owner and operator of a carpet cleaning business, that's the mindset I've had while serving as a state legislator. Politics has never been a career for me; I have continued to work our family business and take care of our clients while in the state house. That's the model our founders set for us, of being citizen legislators."
Faught said term limits have worked well in Oklahoma and would work equally well on the federal level. Oklahoma voters have overwhelmingly passed term limits proposals on numerous occasions. He pointed out that term limits would prevent the development of ‘good old boy systems’ by introducing new leaders and ideas on a regular basis. “It is time for the citizens of the 2nd District to have their conservative ideas and values represented in Congress,” Faught said.
