Faught opposes SOPA/PIPA legislation (Muskogee, OK) Congressional candidate George Faught came out today in opposition to two pieces of legislation currently before Congress. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), introduced in the House and the Senate, respectively, are intended to crack down on internet piracy and infringement on copyrights and ‘intellectual property’. However, many internet experts and advocacy groups are increasingly uneasy over the reach of the legislation.
“Although SOPA and PIPA may have been well-intentioned, I am concerned about the scope of the bills. Our efforts to protect intellectual property should not restrict the 1st Amendment rights found in the Constitution, nor should we censor the internet in a manner similar to Communist China,” Faught commented.
“In addition, these two bills are overly broad and vague, and would greatly expand government control. Unlike many in Washington, D.C., I think that the federal government already has too much power. In Congress, I will fight and oppose measures like SOPA, PIPA, ObamaCare and any other legislation that spends too much, expands government too much, or is unconstitutional,” Faught said.
Staunchly pro-life, pro-business, and pro-limited government, Faught has been endorsed by the Concerned Women PAC, Eagle Forum and Phyllis Schlafly and the Can-Do Conservatives of America. In 2010, Rep. Faught received the top 'Limited Government' rating from Oklahomans for Sovereignty and Free Enterprise (OK-SAFE). In 2011 he received the 'Eagle Award' from the Oklahoma Eagle Forum (presented by Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly) in recognition of his pro-life legislative efforts. He was also given the 'Patriot of the Second Amendment' award by the Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Association.
Longtime owner and operator of a successful carpet cleaning business, Faught lives in Muskogee with his wife, Becky, and is the father of three grown children - all born and raised in Muskogee.
